The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday informed the Calcutta High Court that the RG tax Medical College and Hospital's Women Junior Doctor was not gang -raped in Kolkata. A single bench of Justice Tirthankara Ghosh is hearing a case related to rape and murder of a female doctor in August last year.
Earlier, on the first day of the new hearing in his bench on 24 March, Justice Ghosh had directed the CBI to clarify whether the incident was a rape case or gang rape.
On Friday, the CBI, in its clarification to the same bench, dismissed the possibility of gang rape in the case.
Subsequently, the CBI also clarified that the current stage of investigation in the case was related to the angle of tampering and reshuffle, while the initial investigation in the case was being done by the Kolkata Police.
On Friday afternoon, the CBI also submitted a three -page status report to a special Kolkata court on the progress of investigation in the case. The status report was presented in the same special court, which recently sentenced Sanjay Roy, the only convict in the case, to life imprisonment.
On Friday, the CBI also handed over the case diary in the case to Justice Ghosh's bench, as Justice Ghosh directed the first day of the hearing.
The central agency presented an explanation that this tragedy was not a case of "gang rape", also said that his claims on these lines in the case were confirmed in the report by a forensic team of 14 experts, which had examined various documents collected by the investigating officers in the case.
The CBI counsel also told Justice Ghosh's bench on Monday that the current stage of investigation relates to post -crime conduct regarding tampering and replacing the evidence, which could be a part of a major conspiracy behind the crime.
The next hearing in the bench of Justice Ghosh in the case has been scheduled after two weeks. The bench also directed that the case diary of preliminary investigation into the case should be produced in the court on the next hearing date. Remember that on the morning of August 9 last year, the body of the victim was recovered from the seminar hall of the hospital premises.
A special investigation team of Kolkata Police started a preliminary investigation into the case and also arrested Sanjay Roy. However, soon after the order of the Calcutta High Court, the charge of investigation was handed over to the CBI and accordingly, Roy was handed over to the CBI from the police custody of the city.
Recently, a special Kolkata court sentenced Roy to life imprisonment. However, the CBI has already challenged the order of a special court in the Calcutta High Court and demanded death penalty for it.
