Actress Jayaka Yagnik and her husband Smit Bavariya, an eye surgeon, who tied the knot in 2021, are all set to become parents. Jayaka, who has done Gujarati films like Halkie Fulkee, Wassup Zindagi , Musafir Chhu Yaaron and Aapne To Dhirubhai , and Gujarati TV shows like Chhuta Chheda and Narsinh Mehta , tells us, “Recently, a baby shower was hosted in Ahmedabad, which was attended by our family members and close friends. The baby is due sometime in May, and I can’t wait to become a mother.” Excerpts from a chat:

‘It feels like a miracle’

I had fibroids and endometriosis and doctors said that due to these health issues, it was highly unlikely that I would be able to conceive naturally. So, it (being pregnant) feels like a miracle and this is like a gift from God. I want to tell all those couples who are struggling with this to never lose hope; there is always a scope for miracles. Smit and I always wanted to become parents, but we weren’t desperately trying for a baby. This just happened out of the blue and we couldn’t be happier! Last year, I was anchoring a Navratri event on all nine days of the festival. Even after Navratri was over, I was feeling exhausted and that’s when we decided to get a few tests done. In November, I found out that I was pregnant.

‘I feel ready for motherhood’

Motherhood will be a completely new chapter in my life, but I am ready for it. For about 15 years, I have lived on my own (in Mumbai) and I was never responsible for another person. All that is going to change now and there will be a lot of responsibilities, but I am looking forward to it. I have also started reading books on parenting.
