Easy ways to keep digestion in Navratri fast

For nine days of Navratri, devotees also fast along with the worship of the Goddess Mother. However, there can be problems such as blotting, acidity and constipation due to prolonged empty stomach, not drinking enough water and wrong eating. During the fast, some important diet tips should be adopted to avoid stomach related problems, so that you can be absorbed in devotion to Mother Durga without any trouble.

Why do digestive problems occur during fasting?

  • Stay hungry for a long time - Gas starts to form due to staying on an empty stomach, which causes acidity and irritation.

  • Wrong Food Combination - Drinking citrus fruits or tea during fasting can increase stomach acid.

  • Drinking less water - Due to lack of water in the body, digestion slows down, causing constipation.

  • Consumption of fried food-puri, dumplings and other fried dishes can negatively affect digestion.

Follow these tips to avoid stomach problems during fasting

1. Avoid citrus fruits

Do not eat citrus fruits like lemon, orange, grapefruit on an empty stomach. They can cause acidity and irritation by increasing acid in the stomach. Instead, eat fruits like banana, chiku, melon, which are beneficial for digestion.

2. Stay hydrated

Drinking lukewarm water is more beneficial in the fast. It improves digestion and reduces acidity. The water should be drunk slowly in small sips, so that blotting can be avoided.

3. Take healthy drinks

Healthy drinks like buttermilk, cucumber water and cold milk help to keep the body hydrated during fasting and remove toxins.

4. Control the amount of food

Grains eaten during the fast such as Kuttu, Sama, Peanut, Sabudana and Singhada are rich in fiber. Eat small amounts and drink enough water after eating, so that digestion is correct and there is no problem of blotting.

5. Avoid eating fried and fried

If you want to avoid constipation, acidity and blotting in the fast, then stay away from fried puri, dumplings and other fried foods. Eat boiled or roasted foods in their place.

6. Eat herbal tea

Herbal tea made from ginger and basil leaves keeps digestion and helps in removing acidity and blotting. If you want, you can also add a few drops of lemon juice to it.

7. Take Triphala if you have constipation problem

If there is a problem of constipation during the fast, then you can drink half a teaspoon of Triphala powder mixed with lukewarm water before going to bed at night. It improves digestion and relieves constipation.
