Suresh Raina gets surpassed by MS Dhoni as the Chennai Super Kings’ all-time leading scorer in Indian Premier League history

Tamil Nadu’s Chennai [India], Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni became the team’s top run scorer in Indian Premier League (IPL) history on Friday, surpassing former left-hander Suresh Raina.

In the eighth match of the current 18th edition of the lucrative league, which was played at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, the wicketkeeper-batter achieved this milestone by smashing an undefeated 30 runs off just 16 balls at an incredible strike rate of 187.5, which was laced with three boundaries and two maximums in his innings.

With this knock, the 43-year-old overtook Raina to become the franchise’s top run scorer. With an outstanding average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 139.43, Dhoni has amassed 4699 runs in 204 innings to far. However, the southpaw scored 4687 runs in 171 innings while playing for the Chennai-based team before quitting the game.

Other players on the list include captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (2433* runs from 67 innings), Ravindra Jadeja (1939 runs from 127 innings), and Faf Du Plessis (2721 runs in 86 innings). Du Plessis has joined the Delhi Capitals as vice-captain for the current season, while Gaikwad and Jadeja are remain with the team.

In the IPL 2025 match between the Super Kings and the Rajat Patidar-led team, RCB defeated Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team by 50 runs on Friday at Chepauk Stadium thanks to strong bowling performances from pacers Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal.

RCB leads the points table after winning two straight games. At Chepauk Stadium, the home field of the Yellow Army, it was RCB’s first victory over CSK since 2008. For his outstanding fifty in the first innings, Patidar was given the Player of the Match award.
