Commuters at Mahim Station can now benefit from the newly reopened south Foot Over Bridge (FOB), which has been reconstructed using corrosion-resistant stainless steel to enhance safety and durability.

According to WR, the old FOB was closed for reconstruction on 10th June, 2023, due to corrosion. "In its place, a modern, high-strength stainless steel FOB has been constructed to enhance passenger safety and longevity. This FOB has been constructed at an approx. cost of Rs. 4.27 crore, using IRS 350-grade stainless steel, ensuring durability and resistance to corrosion. The structural components of stainless still (JSL make) were fabricated at an RDSO-approved workshop in Cuttack, Odisha, and transported to the worksite in Mahim, Mumbai. Key milestones in the construction process included the launching of the main girders on 8th -9th November, 2024, followed by the casting of the deck slab and staircase on 15th-16th March, 2025" said an official of WR.

"The rebuilt FOB spans 22 meters in length and 6 meters in width, providing a spacious and secure passage for pedestrians. This initiative is part of Western Railway's ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure and ensure commuter safety" further added official.

Previously, the old FOB had been closed due to safety concerns arising from structural weaknesses.

Gift for IPL Fans by Western Railway

Western Railway has successfully rebuilt and opened recently the Wankhede North Foot Over Bridge (FOB) for public use, ensuring enhanced connectivity and convenience for cricket fans ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 matches at the renowned Wankhede Stadium. The reconstruction of the FOB was completed in just eight months after receiving necessary funds from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

According toWR,  the newly constructed FOB is now operational with two staircases—one at the east side (north facing) and another at the west side (north facing). This will ensure seamless movement of pedestrians, especially during the upcoming IPL matches. The 48 meter long FOB of 6.30 meter width has been rebuilt at a cost of ₹6.50 Crore. Additionally, the two other staircases (south facing) on east and west sides will be handed over to the MCA by 7th April, 2025.

The lighting and surveillance cameras have been installed by the MCA to enhance security and visibility. The FOB was closed in June 2020 following a safety audit conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai. Recognizing the necessity of restoring this crucial pedestrian link, WR undertook the rebuilding process with dedicated efforts to complete it.

Western Railway remains committed to prioritizing passenger safety and convenience through timely infrastructure improvements. The reopening of this FOB is expected to significantly benefit cricket enthusiasts and commuters alike.
