Ajay Devgn and Raveena Tandons film Dilwale was one of the biggest hits of 1994 but writer-director Karan Rajdan wanted to make this movie with Shahrukh Khan. In a recent interview Karan Rajdan revealed that Shahrukh had refused to do the film because he did not like the climax. He also told that filmmaker Subhash Ghai was not happy with Ajay Devgns role. During an interview with Siddharth Kannan Karan Rajdan talked about the film Dilwale. He said The role I gave to Ajay Devgn in Dilwale was originally written for Shahrukh Khan. I went to his house to narrate the story and he liked the script. He told me only one thing: Karan the heroine should go to the other hero in the end. I said what are you saying I will be beaten with shoes. I refused to change the films climax and then he said that I will not do the film. Sunil Shetty was given the role of a police officer Karan Rajdan said that Ajay Devgn was already a part of the film but he was playing the role of the second hero which was later given to Sunil Shetty. Karan said I went to Ajays set and asked him to play the role of Paagal Wal. He immediately accepted it. No one was available for the second hero. Then we cast Sunil Shetty for that. Karan told that he decided to show the film to Subhash Ghai after 80 percent of the shooting was completed but his reaction was surprising. Karan said He told me that if you want to cry then cry now because you are going to cry on the day of the films release anyway. I asked why? He asked me if you have any enmity with Ajay Devgn? He is not looking good in the role of a mad boy. He did not say anything about Sunil Shetty because he was new in the industry. On the other hand Raveena Tandon had given about 12 flop films. People used to tease me and say that the thirteenth day will be yours. Karan Rajdan further said that Dilwale rocked the box office on the very first day. He said The film became a superhit in the first show on the first day. Subhash Ghai called me to congratulate me. Then Shahrukh met me then he admitted that his advice was not right. He said that Karan you were right and I was wrong.
