Mumbai’s first elevated nature trail walkway opened for the public today at Malabar Hill, after development of three years. The walkaway is a BMC project, inspired by Singapore’s tree-top walkways.
The BMC shared the news about the opening of the ‘Elevated Nature Trail’ through a video post on X, with the caption, “An ‘Elevated Nature Trail’, inspired by Singapore’s ‘Tree Top Walk,’ has been developed amidst the lush greenery of Kamla Nehru Park and Firozeshah Mehta Garden at Malabar Hill in Mumbai. This ‘Elevated Nature Trail’ is now open to the public, offering Mumbaikar a unique elevated path through the treetops."
The walkway passes through Malabar Hill forests and ends with a scenic view of the Arabian Sea near Girgaon Chowpatty. A ticket price of Rs 25 will be charged for Indians, while the foreigners need to pay Rs 100 for the serene walk.
The video shared by BMS features the trail covered with forest on both sides. The place is all green, with several kinds of flower adding to its beauty. The visitors can “experience panoramic sea views from the dedicated Sea Viewing Deck", as said in the video.
Expressing joy at the opening, a tourist said, “We had been waiting for this for a long time since we learned in December that a nature trail was going to open. Similar concepts exist in other countries, like Singapore, allowing people to connect with nature, observe birds, and enjoy scenic views like the breathtaking sight of Girgaon…"
Meanwhile, the project was given to BMC in 2021 for Rs 22 crore, and its civil work began in 2022. However, as Malabar Hill is a silent zone, construction could only be carried out during specific hours of the day, causing the project to take nearly three years to complete.
