Rakesh Tiwari, president of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) in Patna, said that the purpose of the forthcoming President Cup is to provide gifted cricket players in Bihar a chance to demonstrate their skills in red-ball cricket.
The first ‘President Cup’ will start in Patna on April 1st, according to the BCA. The BCA president said that participating in this competition would provide the athletes with the exposure they need to advance in their careers.
“The Bihar Cricket Association’s attempts to promote cricket in the state have taken a major stride with this competition. It seeks to provide gifted cricket players a stage on which to demonstrate their skills in red-ball cricket and get the recognition they need to advance in their careers,” Tiwari said.
Eight teams will compete in the two- or three-day President Cup, split into two groups. To ensure that players from all around the state may display their skills, these teams will be chosen from different districts in Bihar.
In the meanwhile, BCA has declared the opening of its brand-new project, “Search for Bowlers.” By identifying, developing, and nurturing young fast-bowling and spin-bowling talent across the state, this strategic initiative hopes to provide up-and-coming cricket players between the ages of 16 and 25 a chance to further their careers.
Former Indian cricket players Venkatapathy Raju and Salil Ankola will collaborate closely with Anand Yalvigi, Director of Cricket Development and Operations, BCA, to identify Bihar’s latent fast-bowling and spin-bowling skills.
The former left-arm spinner for India has coached a number of teams, giving him a wealth of coaching expertise. In contrast, Ankola has taken 13 wickets in 20 ODIs for India.
From May 2 to May 7, a talent discovery camp will take place in Patna’s Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to launch the ‘Search for Bowlers’ campaign.
Under the direction of the cricket director, local selectors and coaches will do the first player screening during this camp. Two former Test cricket players who have also been national selectors will assess the selected applicants in the final round.
In order to prepare them for selection for the state squad, ten fast bowlers and ten spinners will be chosen and given the chance to participate in rigorous training sessions. Their development will be continuously evaluated during this process.
Applicants for the program must be permanent residents of Bihar, be between the ages of 16 and 25, and not be competing in the “President Cup 2025.”
