According to reports, Apple is working on some of the most significant revisions to the iPhone in recent years. Significant performance improvements, design tweaks, and camera enhancements are anticipated in the range.

The basic iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the brand-new iPhone 17 Air are the four variants that will be part of the iPhone 17 series. Although Apple has not yet provided confirmation, rumors indicate that these devices will have a new modem chip that was built internally, smaller designs, ProMotion displays on all versions, and improved connection.

The iPhone 17 series might be one of the biggest updates since the iPhone X if these rumors are accurate. In light of that, here are the top ten changes we anticipate seeing when the next iPhones are released later this year.

1. Thinnest phone ever

The iPhone 17 Air, which is anticipated to be Apple's thinnest iPhone to date, maybe one of the most exciting features of the iPhone 17 series. According to rumors, its thickness is only between 5.5 and 6.25 mm, making it thinner than any other iPhone and even less than the 6.9 mm iPhone 6. In addition, a 6.6-inch screen is anticipated for the iPhone 17 Air, putting it in between the Pro and Pro Max variants.

2. Simpler replacement of batteries

According to reports, Apple is simplifying the process of changing the battery in every iPhone 17 model. With the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, the company unveiled a new adhesive technique, which is now anticipated to be used in the full iPhone 17 lineup. This could improve sustainability and lower repair costs by simplifying battery changes.

3. Latest camera design

According to reports, Apple is altering the camera setup in several apparent ways. A new rectangular camera module may replace the conventional square bump on the iPhone 17 Air and 17 Pro versions. While the Pro models would use a larger, oval-shaped camera island, the iPhone 17 Air is anticipated to have a single rear camera.

4. ProMotion for all iPhones

A 120Hz ProMotion display, which was previously exclusive to the Pro models, is anticipated to be included in all iPhone 17 models for the first time. Better animations, more fluid scrolling, and increased responsiveness are all results of this. LTPO OLED technology, which also makes an always-on display feature possible, will be used in these screens. It's unclear if the regular iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will acquire this capability.

5. Big Camera upgrade

A 48-megapixel telephoto camera—a significant improvement over the present 12-megapixel sensor—is anticipated to be included in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. A new 24MP front camera with a six-element lens may also be included in all variants for improved video calls and selfies. A single 48-megapixel rear camera is anticipated for the iPhone 17 Air, which might be a significant improvement over a non-Pro model.

6. Faster wireless connectivity with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3

Wi-Fi 7 is anticipated to be supported by all iPhone 17 models, providing enhanced connectivity, reduced latency, and faster speeds. It is anticipated that Bluetooth 5.3 will improve wireless performance for smart home appliances and accessories like AirPods. According to reports, Apple is developing a unique Wi-Fi chip to increase efficiency even more.

7. Apple's modem chip in the iPhone 17 Air

According to reports, Apple's proprietary 5G modem chip will replace Qualcomm's modem in the iPhone 17 Air. It is anticipated that it will provide rates of up to 4Gbps, even if it might not enable mmWave 5G. Whether Apple will employ an upgraded C1 modem or the same one as the iPhone 16e is still unknown.

8. More durable, anti-reflective display

According to reports, Apple is developing a new anti-reflective coating for a more durable display. This will improve sight in bright environments by lowering glare and strengthening the screen's resistance to scratches and drops.

9. No SIM tray left?

With the iPhone 14, Apple eliminated the physical SIM tray from iPhones in the US, and it appears that other nations may follow suit. Due to its extreme thinness, the iPhone 17 Air is probably going to be totally dependent on eSIM. It is unclear, though, if this shift would hold for markets like India.

10. A19 chip that is faster and more effective

Apple's new A19 chip, which is based on an enhanced 3nm technology, is probably going to power the iPhone 17 series. The A19 Pro processor, which offers improved performance and economy, will be included in the Pro variants. Anticipate enhanced multitasking, longer battery life, and quicker app launches.
