In order to get permission from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE) to take wickets during the current IPL 2025 season, Sanju Samson took a plane from Guwahati to Bengaluru on Monday.
With Riyan Parag heading the team, Samson has only appeared in the competition as an impact substitution and a lone hitter so far. Only a provisional permit to participate in the current IPL was given to the wicketkeeper-batter after surgery on his right index finger.
“He will now be tested by the CoE’s Sport Science wing and ask for permission to return to his full responsibilities. Sanju would also return as captain if allowed to retain wickets, according to Cricbuzz.
After ensuring that Parag would be playing as a pure batter for the specified amount of time, Samson gave him the leadership for the season’s first three games. Samson is anticipated to put on the wicketkeeping gloves and skippered Rajasthan in their next match now that his thumb injury is completely recovered.
“He will seek clearance to do so for the remaining games and is expected to be back as skipper from the RR’s next match, which is nearly a week away,” according to the newspaper.
In the three games he has played thus far, Samson has scored 66 against SRH, 13 against KKR, and 20 against CSK. Dhruv Jurel has taken up the team’s wicketkeeping duties while he is away.
The Royals’ IPL season has started uneventfully; they lost their first two games before defeating the Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati on Sunday night.
On April 5, they will play an away game against Punjab Kings, and on April 9, they will play another away game against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. After that, on April 13, the squad will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru at their home base in Jaipur.
