New Delhi: Mumbai Indians secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over Kolkata Knight Riders thanks to a sensational debut from Ashwani Kumar who tore through KKR’s batting lineup. Chasing a meager target of 117 MI comfortably reached the total in just 12.4 overs highlighting their supremacy in the contest. Kolkata Knight Riders opting to bat first endured a nightmare start as Trent Boult dismissed Sunil Narine for a duck in the very first over. Deepak Chahar compounded their woes by sending back Quinton de Kock (1) in the next over leaving KKR reeling. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (11) attempted to stabilize the innings but became the first victim of debutant Ashwani Kumar who made an instant impact. Kumar continued to make life difficult for KKR’s batters dismissing Rinku Singh (17) Manish Pandey (19) and Andre Russell (5) in quick succession. With wickets tumbling regularly KKR found themselves at 80/7 with only Angkrish Raghuvanshi (26 off 16) showing some resistance. The lower order failed to contribute significantly as the team folded for a paltry 116 in 16.2 overs. Ashwani Kumar ended with dream figures of 4/24 in his three-over spell while Boult (1/23) Chahar (2/19) and Hardik Pandya (1/10) provided excellent support to keep KKR in check. MI’s Chase: Rickelton Leads the Charge In response Mumbai Indians never looked in trouble. Openers Rohit Sharma (13) and Ryan Rickelton (62*) laid a solid foundation before Sharma fell to Andre Russell in the sixth over. Will Jacks (16) played a brief cameo before being dismissed but Rickelton continued his sublime form. He along with Suryakumar Yadav (21*) ensured there were no hiccups as MI wrapped up the chase in just 12.4 overs. Russell was the only KKR bowler to make an impact picking up both wickets to finish with figures of 2/29 in 2.4 overs. However MI’s dominance was never in question as they clinically chased down the target with ease. Key Highlights from the Match Ashwani Kumar’s Sensational Debut: The young left-arm pacer stole the show with four crucial wickets. KKR’s Batting Woes: Poor shot selection and a lack of partnerships resulted in a dismal total. Rickelton’s Steady Hand: His unbeaten 62 guided MI to a comfortable victory. With this resounding win Mumbai Indians continue their impressive campaign while Kolkata Knight Riders must go back to the drawing board to address their batting struggles.
