Third notice issued to Kunal Kamra, summoned for questioning on 5 April

Standup comedian Kunal Kamra is currently in the headlines due to political jokes in her show. He has recently issued a notice to him for the third time to appear for questioning. He has been asked to appear on 5 April and get his statement recorded. However, the Mumbai Police said that even before this, Kunal Kamra was called for questioning twice, but both of them did not appear both times.

Kunal Kamra recently posted a video on social media handle X of one of her shows. The video claimed that he made derogatory remarks against Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. Due to this, supporters of Eknath Shinde lodged an FIR against him. He is now being called for questioning, but he has not appeared on the 2 notices issued so far. After this, now a third notice has been issued to him.

Relief from Madras High Court

Kunal Kamra had approached the Madras High Court in this case and filed an anticipatory bail petition in the court. The comedian applied for transit anticipatory bail in the court. The lawyers had demanded immediate hearing before the main bench of the Madras High Court. A case is registered against Kamra in Maharashtra, but he is currently in Tamil Nadu. The Madras High Court ordered not to take any action against Kamra till 7 April.

Kunal Kamra had said in court that he had moved from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu in the year 2021 and since then he is a resident of this state in general and he is afraid of arrest from Mumbai Police. After this, now he has got relief from the Madras High Court.

Shinde supporters registered FIR

The Mumbai Police had earlier sent two summons to Kamra after registering an FIR on 24 March on the basis of a complaint of Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Three separate cases have been registered against the comedian at Khar police station. According to the Mumbai Police, a complaint was lodged by the mayor of Jalgaon city, while the other two had lodged a hotel businessman and a businessman from Nashik.

Kunal Kamra released the video on social media handle X on 23 March. Kunal Kamra used the Parodi Varjan of a song of the 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai, targeting Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Shinde supporters got angry against his show. After this, Shinde supporters vandalized the studio where the show was done. The studio lights broke the chairs. Maharashtra Police is currently investigating in this case.
