Any guesses? Well we are talking about Azim Premji the founder of the IT giant Wipro. He hails from one of Indias most prominent business families. Born in Mumbai in 1945 Azim Premjis father Mohammad Premji was a rice trader who originally operated his business in Myanmar. However in the 1940s he relocated to India with his entire family and made it their home.

Going by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index Azim Premjis net worth stands at $27.8 billion approximately Rs 230740 crore. It is often stated that he donates in a single day what some of Indias wealthiest individuals can only dream of earning. As per a report by News18 the Premji family donates around Rs 27 crore every day.
In 1947 during the partition of India and the creation of Pakistan as a separate Muslim nation Pakistans leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah invited Azim Premjis father Mohammad Premji to settle in Pakistan. He even offered him the position of finance minister. However Mohammad Premji turned down the offer and decided to remain in India with his family.
While Azim Premjis father refused the invitation to move to Pakistan his elder brother Farooq Premji accepted it in 1965. After getting married he relocated to Pakistan with his family. Just a year later Mohammad Premji passed away forcing Azim Premji to leave his studies in the U.S. and return to India. Upon his return he took over his father’s business and went on to establish himself as a leading figure in the Indian business world.
In addition to his outstanding business achievements Azim Premji is widely recognized for his philanthropic efforts. During the financial year 2020-21 he donated an incredible ₹9713 crore or ₹27 crore a day as per the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2021.
As of February 22 2025 Azim Premji is the wealthiest Muslim in India with a net worth of $12.2 billion. He ranks as the 19th richest individual in India and the 195th richest person globally according to Forbes.
