Jon Richardson has left fans gobsmacked by his decision to leave the comedy world for a different path entirely. Known for lighting up both the stand-up realm and television screens, he is now opting for a decidedly ordinary existence.
The 42-year-old Celebrity Gogglebox alumnus spilt the beans on Instagram, posting a video during a brisk walk where he dished the scoop to his followers. Jon divulged: "I just thought I'd give you a little update. I don't really do social media updates, and I'll tell you why - because I don't think anyone cares. But I have a little bit of news. I've obviously been taking a little bit of a break from stand-up and it's really made me... want to carry on taking a break from stand-up."
He reflected further: "I've been thinking a lot about a diary entry that I found from 1997."
He then shared a snippet of the nostalgic entry, with the Radio 6 personality remarking: "It's this one. I was 14 years old, it says although I would love to be a stand-up comedian, I'll probably end up being a teacher. And I've been thinking a lot about that."
In an astonishing turn, Jon dropped the revelation: "I've loved being a comedian; it was absolutely the right choice. But I've decided it would've been nice to try the other option, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do."
John stunned his followers by revealing he'd moved on to a new venture: "I've been doing some training, and I've taken a teaching position. I will update you as soon as I can, but that's all from me for now. I just wanted to let you know where I've been. I'll keep you posted."
In addition to this career shift, John made headlines last April when his separation from his wife Lucy Beaumont was made public. The pair had exchanged vows back in April 2015, and together they have an eight year old daughter named Elsie.
Their split came as an unforeseen twist to their fanbase, given the couple's rise to stardom on the sitcom 'Meet The Richardsons,' which first aired in 2020.
When announcing their decision to part ways, the joint statement confirmed: "We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways."
They added: "As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment. Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont."
It appears the two have finalised their divorce proceedings, as evidenced by Jon's payment of £1.625 million to Lucy for her stake in a shared company where both served as directors marking the end of both their personal romance and their financial partnership, which had amassed them a combined fortune of £6 million.
