'I bought daffodils from every supermarket - one bunch lasted longer than all the others'

A savvy shopper has weighed in on the budget bunches of daffodils the have been selling in the run up to Grace Forell, also known on social media as The Sustainable Spender, conducted an experiment to see which supermarket sold the cheapest daffodils and just how long they would bloom for.

Scouring eight different supermarkets, including , , , , , among others, Grace put them head to head to see which bunch lasted the longest. She explained that the winner may be a surprise. Each of the bunches cost around £1 each.

Grace did caveat that with the sorry-looking Aldi bunch, no full bunches were available in store, all of them were reduced.

She said: "Presumably because they weren't very fresh, but I did pay 88p for these and I expected better."

By day three of Grace's experiment, all of the daffodils aside from the Aldi ones had bloomed.

She pointed out: "But was starting to look a bit shriveled and gave up the ghost on day six."

Grace praised M&S's for showing "early promise" of perfect flowers, but they peak on days four and five.

By day five, the daffodils from Sainsbury's and Morrisons had begun wilting.

Grace continued: "Things got interesting on day six, with underdogs Asda and Lidl emerging as the frontrunners. Given Asda was also the biggest bunch with 18 stems, I was really impressed.

"However, Lidl nudged ahead and I've crowned it the winner of this experiment. The lasted a whopping nine days"

The saver did explain that if the experiment were judged on value for money, Asda would've been the winner.

In the caption she explained: "I did an experiment recently to see which supermarket sells the cheapest daffodils. In that respect, Asda offered the best value by far. "

Another difference Grace pointed out was the variation in colour, explaining: "What surprised me most was the diversity of the daffodils. Sainsbury's and Waitrose were delicate, pale varieties, while the Morrisons ones featured a dashing orange trumpet.

"The Aldi daffs didn't really bloom. I'm not 100% sure why, but they were reduced, so I presume they weren't particularly fresh. Unfortunately there weren't any full-priced daffs in my local Aldi that day."
