The industrialists of Una district have sought the intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get subsidy released under the Industrial Development Scheme (IDS), 2017, of the Central Government. Sources say that about 2,000 industries in Himachal and Uttarakhand are waiting for the capital subsidy promised under the IDS, 2017.

Under the scheme, all industrial units that had come up in Himachal and Uttarakhand between 2017 and 2022 were entitled to a capital subsidy of 30 per cent of the project cost up to a maximum of Rs 5 crore.
The industry associations had met Union Minister for Industry and Commerce Piyush Goyal but no solution was found. They have now requested the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter, as their accounts will become non-performing assets if the Centre does not release subsidy.

CS Kapoor, general secretary of the Una District Industries Association, says that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) had extended the scheme to Himachal and Uttarakhand from 2017 to 2022. However, the DPIIT closed its website in 2021 and as a result, several units in Himachal and Uttarakhand could not register themselves with it.

Kapoor says, “We are confident that the Prime Minister will sympathetically consider our request and the subsidy will be released to us.”
