NEW DELHI: The resistance to the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, which was introduced in Parliament on Wednesday, was rejected by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“…you (the opposition) insisted on the creation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee. Unlike the Congress, we do not have a committee.” Our democratic committee comes up with ideas,” he said.

“Congress ke zamane mein committee jo thappa lagati thi.” Our committee talks, makes decisions based on those conversations, and makes adjustments. “What is the purpose of the committee if the changes are not going to be accepted?” he continued.

Congressman KC Venugopal said that the Center was “bulldozing the legislation” in his opposition to the measure, which prompted this action.

“At the very least, the members must have the authority to propose modifications to this kind of law (the Waqf Amendment law) that you are introducing into the House. The law is being trampled underfoot. This kind of legislation is what this is. You must allow time for revisions. A number of sections need to be amended. “There is absolutely no time,” he murmured.

The bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Kiren Rijiju, the minister of parliamentary affairs. By bolstering administration and guaranteeing more effective management of Waqf assets across India, the proposed modifications to the Waqf Act, 1995, aim to enhance regulation and monitoring of Waqf estates.
