One of the most successful players in IPL history, Rohit Sharma, spoke about how his position with the Mumbai Indians has changed over time, from taking on additional responsibilities to winning the team championships. He said that while a lot has changed since he began, his enthusiasm and drive to win games and trophies for the team have remained constant.

Rohit’s IPL start has been his poorest since 2020. In the first two games of the current IPL 2025, he has not performed to his full potential; in the first match against the Chennai Super Kings, he was removed for a duck. He scored only 8 runs in the match against the Gujarat Titans, which MI lost by 36 runs on Saturday. He then came in as an Impact Sub and scored 13 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

“Obviously, things have changed since I began. I begin the innings now, but I used to bat in the middle order. I am no longer the captain. I currently coach with several of my colleagues from our championship-winning seasons. As a result, while positions and a lot of other things have changed, the attitude has not.

“Going out there and winning games and trophies is still what I want to accomplish for this squad. Mumbai Indians are renowned for it. We have won trophies and saved games from circumstances that no one thought were possible throughout the years. On JioHotstar’s special feature “Charcha with Rohit Sharma,” Rohit said, “That is what MI and Mumbai are all about.”

With five IPL titles under his belt, Rohit is the most successful captain in history. He also discussed the new players joining the Mumbai Indians this season, saying, “Guys like Trent Boult, who have been here before, bring a lot of experience and understand MI’s culture.”
