Cult classic movie Sholay was released in 1975. It features Amitabh Bachchan as Jai Dharmendra as Veeru Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur Baldev Singh Amjad Khan as Gabbar and Hema Malini as Basanti. When Sholay was first released in 1975 it got negative reviews from critics and didn’t do well at the box office. But as more people watched it and spread good word-of-mouth the film became a huge success. It set records for running continuously in many theatres across India and played for over five years at Mumbais Minerva Theatre. The movie was also a hit overseas especially in the Soviet Union. At that time Sholay became the highest-grossing Indian film ever. Made on a budget of Rs 30 million the movie earned Rs 350 million worldwide. Do you know the credit behind Sholays success is given to its director Ramesh Sippy. He is known for movies like Andaz Seetaa Aur Geeta Shaan Shakti and Buniyaad series. Talking about his personal life Sippy has made several headlines as he has been married twice. While working on a serial he met and fell for an actress named Kiran Juneja. They married in 1986 after being in a relationship for four years. Interestingly despite a 17-year age gap and Sippy being previously married their relationship faced no obstacles. Sippy had divorced his first wife Geeta with whom he has three children: Rohan Sheena and Sonya. Kiran Juneja is an actress who is best known for her role of Ganga in Mahabharat and Veerawali in Buniyaad. She has also been a part of movies like Mulzim Zamana Deewana Bunty Aur Babli Khosla Ka Ghosla Krrish Fashion Badmaash Company to name a few. Though Sippy and Juneja have no children together she considers his children as her own. Rohan Sippy’s daughter Sheena was previously married to Kunal Kapoor the son of Shashi Kapoor but they divorced in 2004.
