In Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Gram Panchayats will become independent revenue generators and will no longer be restricted to doing typical development tasks like repairing roads, drainage, and elementary schools. Sanitary napkins and pads will be manufactured in villages by Panchayats beginning in July, giving 100 to 150 people each community a job.
Infrastructure projects in the district, which has 1,148 Gram Panchayats, are mostly funded by state and federal money. However, a move toward more sustainable approaches has been spurred by claims of abnormalities in these developments. The new plan calls for the installation of sanitary napkin-making machines with monies allotted, guaranteeing hygienic accessible and bringing in money for the neighborhood.
By giving jobless men and women jobs in their communities, this project would empower them in addition to promoting hygiene and convenience for women. Panchayats will eventually thrive on their own self-generated income and support regional growth.
Shrikant Darve, the district panchayat raj officer, emphasized that the initiative would create jobs locally and greatly increase village revenues. Work is now being done to put the plan into action.
