There are many in the world but very few can claim to be the most secret on the planet. Well, there is one that happens to be owned by a Brit - 5,300 miles away from - that was named "the most secret" and it also happens to be a gorgeous private resort.

According to magazine, in Nicaragua is the "world's most secret island". Located on Lake Nicaragua, the island is surrounded by jungle and volcano views, and sits just a short boat ride from the city of Granada. What makes it even more unusual is that it's owned by a Londoner. Karen Emanuel first discovered the island back in 2007 while on . She spotted a sign in a restaurant that read "Island for Sale" and couldn't stop thinking about it.

Within weeks of returning to the UK, she had paid a deposit and began working on plans to turn the island into a luxury eco-resort.

With help from architect Matthew Falkner and sustainable hotel group Cayuga Collection, she brought her idea to life, and Jicaro Island Lodge was born.

Today, the island offers nine treehouse-style casitas that can accommodate up to 21 guests.

Each casita is built from trees knocked down by Hurricane Felix and designed to blend into the surrounding rainforest.

There's no air conditioning, but natural ventilation and shade help keep things cool.

The entire island was carefully developed to protect its environment - no large trees were cut down and natural boulders were left in place.

According to the , the casitas include private decks, hammocks, and views over the water.

Guests can relax by the pool, enjoy spa treatments in a lakeside wellness centre, or explore nearby islands and volcanoes with a resident nature guide.

There's even a swim-up bar and a restaurant that serves three daily meals using local ingredients.

A full-time team of 17 staff run the island, including a private chef, concierge, and housekeeping.

Services like laundry, turn-down, and guided tours are all included.

Jicaro's location also makes it a good base for exploring Lake Nicaragua and the historic city of Granada.

Kayaking, birdwatching and fishing are all popular activities for visitors.
