The actor was featured in a Weibo post by the brand, which included two photos of him and introduced him as a “Muji Friend,” according to The Star. The campaign focused on the connection between people, nature, and objects, with Kaneshiro embodying the theme of tranquility and simplicity.

“In nature, there is wisdom for a comfortable life. In nature, there is an answer to a comfortable life,” the China branch of the Japanese retailer wrote, according to The Straits Times.

In the first image, Kaneshiro is seen casually dressed in a white T-shirt under a white shirt and khaki pants, holding a bicycle while standing along a peaceful country road. The second photo shows him in a laid-back outfit of a white T-shirt, blue shirt, and blue pants.

Social media users were quick to praise his timeless look, with many commenting on how little he has aged over the years. Others also expressed their admiration for Muji China’s success in engaging the elusive actor as its ambassador.

Following the photos, Muji China released a two-minute behind-the-scenes video, showcasing Kaneshiro in a serene setting. The video, set to calming background music, offers viewers a chance to reflect on the message of “life in nature” through Kaneshiro’s composed presence.

Kaneshiro, 51, has maintained a largely private life, with his last public appearance being the cover of ElleMen China magazine in June 2022. Before that, he appeared in a mobile game commercial in March 2021. He has not starred in a film since the 2017 romantic comedy “This Is Not What I Expected.”

Born to a Japanese father and Taiwanese mother, Kaneshiro began his career in entertainment as a pop singer in 1992, transitioning to acting the following year. Over the course of his career, he has worked with renowned directors across East Asia, including Wong Kar Wai, Peter Chan, Zhang Yimou, and John Woo, gaining both commercial success and critical acclaim.
