The building of a 550-meter-long Yamuna bridge, which would connect Noida Sector 168 to Lalitpur hamlet in Faridabad, has been authorized by the Haryana government. A 56-kilometer stretch of the Faridabad Noida Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway includes the bridge. Almost thirty years ago, the initiative was announced. At an estimated cost of Rs 460 crore, the work is expected to be finished by 2027.
An estimated one lakh people utilize the Noida Expressway every day. The trip distance is increased by over 32 kilometers due to the frequent traffic on this route. The new project is anticipated to cut the travel time between Noida and Faridabad from almost an hour to only thirty minutes, which would be a major relief to everyday commuters.
UP And Haryana Will Pay For It
Noida had accepted the NCR planning board’s proposal last year that Haryana and Uttar Pradesh should split the building costs evenly; however, Haryana had not purchased the necessary land, which resulted in further delays.
Vipul Goel, the Minister for Urban Local Bodies and Civil Aviation in Haryana, has said that the state government has now committed to paying half of the overall cost. This choice cleared the path for the project’s advancement and fixed a long-standing financial problem.
The FNG Expressway, which would cost Rs 1,000 crore in total, was announced in 1998. The project was delayed due to a number of reasons, including a lack of cooperation between the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, difficulties acquiring land, and finance concerns. The financing of the Yamuna Bridge was one of the main areas of contention between the two states. Neither party wanted to shoulder the financial burden. But when former Ghaziabad MP VK Singh pushed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take over the unfinished portions in 2023, the project really took off.
The FNG Expressway’s current state
The FNG Expressway is still under built. It would connect Chhajarsi along National Highway 9 in Ghaziabad to NH2 in Faridabad via Noida. The highway is moving at different rates in different places.
Out of the 23 km of the expressway that runs through Noida, 11.6 km have been finished by the Noida Authority so far. The expected cost of the remaining 12.1 km, which includes numerous important outstanding sections, is ₹1,314 crore.
An estimated 61 crore would be spent on a 650-meter elevated road in Chhajarsi.
A single-lane section close to the settlement of Sorkha.
Due to land conflicts, a 200-meter portion in Shahadra, close to Sector 143, was delayed.
The irrigation department has yet to approve an elevated road across the Hindon.
There is still no completed underpass at the junction of the FNG and Noida Expressways.
