Trump tariffs: US President Donald Trump recently imposed heavy tariffs on more than 60 countries including some of United States key trade partners including India. As per a report by Switzerland-based UBS Group US the worlds largest economy imports food items from almost every corner of the world and the American market is hugely dependent on these imports. Most of the US food imports come from neighboring Mexico and Canada which have been exempted from Trumps exorbitant new tariff rates. Mexico is the largest trading partner of the US while Canada ranks third. Heres what US imports from various countries across the globe; According to details the US imports mushrooms beef pork fish lobster crabs canola oil wheat corn oats barley and maple syrup from its neighbor Canada. Mexico is top exporter of key items to the US like tomatoes avocados capsicum cranberries strawberries raspberries cucumbers broccoli watermelons mangoes asparagus lemons onions spinach lettuce walnuts and sugar. China once the largest trading partner of Washington exports Apple juice and frozen fish to the United States. Grapes and poultry are imported from Chile while raw coffee comes from Colombia. Lamb meat in the US comes from Australia orange juice is imported from Brazil which has been hit with 10% tariffs. Notably even drinking water in the US is imported from Fiji. Similarly Costa Rica is the largest supplier of pineapple to the US while coffee beans come from Ivory Coast. Bananas and watermelon come from Guatemala while Indonesia exports palm oil and cocoa butter. Spain is the largest supplier of refined olive oil roasted coffee comes from Switzerland rice comes from Thailand and Vietnam which faces 46% tariffs is the largest exporter of black pepper and cashew nuts. Ireland is the largest exporter of butter to the US while Olive oil salted pork and cheese come from Italy. As per official government data the US imported 297571 metric tonnes of frozen shrimp from India in the 2023-24 fiscal. Indias seafood exports reached an all-time high during this period with the country exporting 1781602 metric tonnes of seafood worth Rs 60523.89 crore. After the US China European Union Southeast Asia Japan and the Middle East are the largest markets for Indian seafood.
