Constitution Hill has come out of his Aintree mishap without harm, yet trainer Nicky Henderson acknowledges there are "issues" that need resolving with his horse. The eight-year-old's flawless 10-race winning streak was abruptly halted last month at Cheltenham when he fell as the heavy favourite in the Champion Hurdle. His misfortune continued at Aintree, taking a spill at the second-last hurdle in the Aintree Hurdle despite appearing to be cruising under jockey Nico de Boinville.
While stable companion Jonbon bounced back from his own Cheltenham letdown with a win in Friday's Melling Chase, Constitution Hill is looking to redeem himself at the Punchestown Festival on May 2, though his handlers have some fine-tuning to do before then. Henderson praised De Boinville for his tenacity and skilful handling of Jonbon, remarking: "That wasn't a very easy day for any of us yesterday. We all feel that and I know he does, too.
"We have issues we've got to sort out with Constitution Hill, but he and I will work that one out. For him to come back and give a horse a ride like that today, that's a great man.
"That (Punchestown) would be our intention. He's back at home in Seven Barrows in his box and he was sound this morning."
Despite recent setbacks, Henderson believes Constitution Hill isn't fazed by his jumping errors, noting: "Unlike Jonbon, he's a very laid-back horse and it (the fall) certainly won't worry him.
"If he's OK, he'll certainly go to Punchestown."
