New Delhi: Fifty from Shubman Gill (61) and Mohammed Sirajs wonderful bowling performance (4 wickets) kept SRH batters quiet. The Gujarat Titans successfully chased down the target of 153 and beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in the 19th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium Hyderabad here on Sunday.
Sent in at number four Washington Sundar displayed his skills with a brilliant 49 off 29 balls guiding GT to their third victory in four matches while SRH suffered their fourth loss in five games.
The target of 153 was chased down comfortably with 20 balls to spare with Shubman Gill remaining unbeaten on 61 off 43 balls.
GT restricted SRH to 152/8 with left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (2/24) and seamer Prasidh Krishna (2/25) putting in solid performances on a sluggish surface.
Mohammed Shami (2/28) and Pat Cummins (1/26) made early breakthroughs leaving GT at a precarious 16/2 in the fourth over.
B Sai Sudharsan (5) couldnt keep his shot down and was caught at square leg off Shami and Cummins dismissed Jos Buttler for a duck with a delivery that sharply nipped back in with Heinrich Klaasen completing the catch behind the stumps.
Though these wickets provided SRH with a ray of hope Shubman Gill and Washington Sundar combined for a 90-run third-wicket partnership leading GT towards victory.
The pressure was relieved when pacer Simarjeet Singh conceded 20 runs in a poor sixth over allowing the GT pair to settle. Singh repeatedly bowled short and Washington capitalized by pulling and hooking him for two sixes over fine leg after hitting two fours.
Gill reached his half-century in 36 balls with a series of elegant strokes while Washington was dismissed just one run shy of his well-deserved fifty.
Sherfane Rutherford (35 not out off 16 balls) finished the job with a flurry of boundaries helping GT wrap up the game with ease.
Earlier Mohammed Siraj dismissed struggling openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma cheaply before returning to take two more wickets.
Head (8) had a lucky start with an edge off Siraj narrowly missing the stumps for a boundary. However Siraj had the last laugh dismissing the dangerous Australian opener when he flicked a delivery to Sai Sudharsan who took a smart diving catch at mid-wicket.
The crowd at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium came alive after a few boundaries but Siraj quickly had Abhisheks number sending him back after a mistimed aerial shot was caught at mid-on.
SRHs openers struggles continued and the team was 45/2 at the end of the powerplay.
Despite dominating proceedings the visitors had an anxious moment when Glenn Phillips was injured and had to hobble off after receiving treatment from the physio.
Ishan Kishan (17) was dismissed after miscuing a pull shot off Prasidh Krishnas short ball to deep square leg where Ishant Sharma completed the catch.
Nitish Kumar Reddy (31 off 34 balls) and Klaasen (27 off 19 balls) tried to revive the SRH innings with a fifty-run stand for the fourth wicket. During this period GT saw a few fours and a six from Klaasen off Rashid Khan.
However just as SRH looked set to build a solid foundation left-arm spinner Sai Kishore dismissed Klaasen who was bowled out while attempting a pull shot.
Reddy also fell trying to hit Sai Kishore out of the park leaving SRH at 105/5 at the start of the 16th over.
