Starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, the film adaptation of popular video game Minecraft titled A Minecraft Movie opened to mixed to negative response at the box office from the film critics but the audiences lapped it up.
The film directed by Jared Hess and written by Chris Bowman, Hubbel Palmer, Neil Widener, Gavin James, and Chris Galletta, from a story by Allison Schroeder, Bowman, and Palmer has shattered box office records left, right and center.
A Minecraft Movie delivered a jaw-dropping $157 million at the US box office delivering the biggest 3-day opening weekend for any video game adaptation ever taking down The Super Mario Bros. Movie which made $146.40 million.

It also delivered the biggest 3-day opening weekend ever in Hollywood since the release of Deadpool & Wolverine in July 2024.
The film further delivered the third biggest weekend ever for a film released in April beating Furious 7 ($147.20 million) and trailing only behind Avengers: Infinity War ($257.70 million) and Avengers: Endgame ($357.10 million).
That’s not all, A Minecraft Movie has also become the fourth biggest PG-rated opener beating last year’s Inside Out 2 which made $154.10 million in opening weekend and went on to do $1.70 billion global lifetime.
The top three PG-rated openers include The Lion King (191.80 million), Incredibles 2 (182.70 million) and Beauty And The Beast (174.80 million).

At the worldwide box office, A Minecraft Movie has delivered a stunning $301 million in its 3-day opening weekend.
Globally, it is the second biggest opener for a video game adaptation behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie which made $377 million.
Overall, it is the 40th biggest opener of all-time for a Hollywood film beating Deadpool 2 ($300.40 million).
