producers in the Kheri district are already beginning to reap the advantages of the Yogi government’s Mukhyamantri Pragatishil Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana, which was established to increase rural income, support native cattle breeds, and encourage livestock producers to become self-sufficient.
The district has set a goal of 45 beneficiaries for the fiscal year 2024–2025. 56 applications have been submitted under the program so far. Eleven of the fifteen milk producers who underwent physical verification were determined to be qualified, and their information was sent to headquarters for final clearance. The remaining applications are still undergoing scrutiny.
The Nand Baba Milk Mission oversees the program, which aims to promote native cattle breeds such Gangatiri, Tharparkar, Gyr, Hariana, and Sahiwal. Based on their daily milk production, farmers are given incentives ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 per cow, up to a maximum of two cows, under this program.
-Gyr, Tharparkar, and Sahiwal: Rs 10,000 for 8–12 liters per day; Rs 15,000 for more over 12 liters per day
-Hariana: Rs 10,000 per day for 6–10 liters; Rs 15,000 per day for more than 10 litres
-Gangatiri: Rs 10,000 per day for 6–8 liters; Rs 15,000 per day for more than 8 litres
Additional incentives are being offered for the purchase of native cows from other states in order to help cattle producers even more. These subsidies will pay for things like animal insurance, transit insurance, and transportation.
This program is seen as an essential step in preserving indigenous cow breeds and improving the financial circumstances of livestock producers.
Local cow rearers are becoming more enthusiastic about the plan, according to GL Verma, Manager, Parag Dairy, Lakhimpur. Not only will the chosen recipients’ income rise as soon as they begin to receive the incentives, but native breed preservation will also pick up steam.
