In addition to attaining impressive development in digital payments and transactions, Uttar Pradesh has become the nation’s top state in terms of delivering money straight to recipients’ bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Funds from 11 departments and 207 initiatives are now being immediately credited to recipients’ accounts using DBT. More than 9.08 crore beneficiaries received transfers totalling more than Rs 1.11 lakh crore in the last year alone.
In only the first eight months of the previous year, UP became the first state to surpass Rs 1,024 crore in digital transactions. Much work was done to improve the DBT infrastructure and advance digital payments under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Among other things, this included extending high-speed internet access in rural regions.
In UP, digital transactions totalled Rs 122.84 crore in 2017–18. This amount skyrocketed to Rs 1,024.41 crore by December 2024, with the majority of the money coming from UPI-based payments. 20,416 bank branches, 4,00,932 Bank Mitras and BC Sakhis, 18,742 ATMs, and 4,40,095 banking centres functioning across the state are all contributing to this digital boom.
In addition to ensuring openness by eradicating corruption, the use of DBT has saved Rs 10,000 crore. Other states continue to be inspired by UP’s digital development.
