Doctors and experts believe that the biggest reason is the lack of adequate nutrition and care of the mother and child during pregnancy. In addition, the lack of treatment facilities in government hospitals in the national capital Delhi, especially the NICU and PICU unit required for newborns, is a major problem. Emergency cesarean surgery facility is also not available in many hospitals.

Not being able to develop properly in the womb and malnutrition – 20.45%
Pneumonia – 18.51%
Septismia – 14.95%
Shortage of breath and lack of oxygen – 9.49%
Shock and other complex diseases – 6.27%
According to the information, the institutional delivery rate in Delhi has reached 95.58%, which has led to a decline in maternal mortality, but still 142 pregnant women lost their lives in 2023. The schemes being run by the government like Janani Suraksha Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana and Nutrition Campaign are not reaching all women.
