Raja Babu, one of the casualties, told the news agency ANI about the event and said that he barely avoided the collision by “jumping” from his car. He said someone was run over by the dumper.

Babu said, “My car was struck by a fast-moving dumper near the Lata Mangeshkar Chowk. I saved my own life by jumping out of my car. The dumper went over a person and struck many more persons and cars. I had injuries to my head, chest, and leg.

“One person has died in the incident,” Dr. Manish Shakya, Emergency Medical Officer at Shri Ram Hospital in Ayodhya, informed ANI. Five patients with serious injuries have been sent to Raja Dashrath Medical College, while one patient with a minor injury is being treated here.”

Earlier on January 31, a trailer vehicle struck a pickup truck that the devotees were passing in Ghazipur this afternoon, resulting in six fatalities and ten injuries. Ten persons were injured in the disaster, and two men, two women, and two children lost their lives.

After taking a sacred plunge in Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh, the devotees were on their way home when they were involved in an accident on the four-lane Varanasi-Gorakhpur road close to Kusumhi Kalan hamlet in the Ghazipur district.
