Thane Shocker: Man Rapes, Slits Throat of 10-Year-Old Girl, Throws Body From 6th Floor Window
Thane: In a shocking case of rape from Thane’s Mumbra, Samrat Nagar, a 20-year-old man allegedly kidnapped, raped then murdered a 10-year-old girl before throwing her body from apartment’s washroom’s window.
The chilling incident came to light at approximately 11:48 pm on Monday when the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell received a distressing report. Yasin Tadvi, the chief of the cell, confirmed the initial report, stating, "The incident was reported at 11.48 pm on Monday to the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell."
Initially, police registered a case under sections relating to murder and the destruction of evidence, alongside provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. However, the subsequent post-mortem examination painted an even more gruesome picture, confirming the young girl had been raped and her throat brutally slit with a sharp weapon.
Following the damning autopsy report, police have added further stringent charges against the accused, including procuration of a child, kidnapping, rape, and aggravated rape due to the victim's age and inability to consent.
According to a police official, the accused, a resident of the nearby Thakurpada area of Mumbra, allegedly lured the young victim, who lived in a neighbouring building, with the promise of toys. He then took her to his sixth-floor flat where the unspeakable acts are said to have taken place. After the alleged rape and murder, the accused is believed to have taken the child's body to his bathroom and thrown her from an open window.
"A police probe team checked every flat in the building and found a window of the bathroom in the man's house open from where he allegedly pushed the girl," the official confirmed.
The young girl, who was not a resident of the building where she died, was discovered in a vertical duct running through the structure. The circumstances surrounding how she came to be there were initially unclear.
Tadvi recounted the harrowing discovery, stating, "According to Tadvi, the girl, who was not a resident of the building, was found lying in a vertical duct running through the structure under unclear circumstances."
The alarm was raised by residents who heard a disturbing thud. "Some women heard a loud thud and alerted the police," Mr. Tadvi explained.
A swift response ensued, with emergency services, including the Mumbra police, fire brigade teams, the regional disaster management cell, and a private ambulance, all rushing to the scene.
"Despite a challenging rescue operation due to the narrow structure of the shaft, fire brigade officials retrieved the child," Mr. Tadvi added, underscoring the difficult conditions faced by the rescue teams. Tragically, despite their efforts, the young girl was declared dead upon arrival at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa.
