Banerjee promised to safeguard the property and people of colour. “I am aware that the Waqf Act’s passage has caused you to feel wronged. “Believe that nothing will occur in Bengal that would allow someone to divide and rule,” she remarked. “Observe the circumstances in Bangladesh. Banerjee said that the Waqf Bill shouldn’t have been approved at this time.

Following lengthy deliberations in both Houses of Parliament, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill was approved by the Rajya Sabha early on Friday and the Lok Sabha, which does not include any members of the BJD, on Thursday. On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu signed the bill into law. PTI “I do not have the right to take someone else’s property, just as no one has the right to take my property. “I will never permit that in West Bengal,” the Chief Minister said at a Vishwa Navkar Mahamantra Divas event in Kolkata. The chief minister said that she and her administration are committed to safeguarding the assets and interests of the minority community. Nearly 33% of the population of West Bengal is made up of members of the minority group. Never forget that your Didi is there to keep you and your belongings safe. “Jio Aur Jine Do (Live and let live)” ought to be our objective, CM Banerjee said.

The chief minister’s remark coincides with the unrest in Murshidabad district’s Jangipur due to violence over the Waqf (Amendment) Act.

Speaking at the event, she also subtly criticised the BJP and the Union government for “destroying” the nation’s future by using “dividing” politics.

“Attempts to sow discord will destroy the nation’s future. It will destroy the nation’s economy. It will make the nation weaker. Only by following the road of togetherness can the nation become stronger, the chief minister said.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Banerjee also urged West Bengalis to struggle for unity.

“To maintain our togetherness, we will have to battle. We will need to consider unification. We will need to strive for harmony. “I will not divert from the path of unity, even if I am shot,” she said.
