Now you can avail Aadhaar related services with your facial recognition. The Center on Tuesday launched a new Aadhaar app that allows users to digitally verify and share their Aadhaar details. That is, now you do not need to carry a physical card with you and neither will you need to submit a photocopy.

This app was officially launched by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav in the national capital. On this occasion, emphasizing the importance of digital innovation, he said that the app has been designed to make Aadhaar verification easier, faster, and more secure. Vaishnav said in a video message posted on social media platform X – “New Aadhaar app, Face ID verification through mobile app. No physical card, no photocopy.” He said that the app gives users the right to share only the necessary data through secure digital means and it always does so with their consent.

As easy as UPI

Ashwini Vaishnav said that Aadhaar verification has now become as easy as UPI payment. Users can now verify and share their Aadhaar details digitally, that too while maintaining their privacy. With this new system, people will no longer need to give a printed copy of their Aadhaar card at hotels, shops, airports, or any other verification point.

There is no need to give a photocopy of the Aadhaar at hotel reception, shops, or during travel. This app has been designed with strong privacy protection. However, it is currently in beta phase. This app ensures that Aadhaar details cannot be faked, edited or misused.

How to use:

1. First of all, download the 'mAadhaar' app from the Play Store or App Store of your smartphone.

2. After installing the app, open it and log in with your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID).

3. After logging in, you will get many options in the app like Aadhaar update, Aadhaar download, Aadhaar verification, etc.

Where will it work:

1. Government services: Through this app, you can avail of government services like applying for a PAN card, applying for a passport, gas subsidy, etc.

2. Banking services: This app can also be used to open a bank account, apply for a loan, and other banking services.

3. Digital identity: Many private companies also accept Aadhaar as identity, such as for buying mobile SIMs.

Where it will not work:

1. Internationally: This app is valid only in India. It cannot be used abroad.

2. Some private services: Some private services and companies still do not accept Aadhaar as an identity.
