Two residents of PS Narela’s Swatantra Nagar neighbourhood were detained by the Delhi Police’s special staff of the outer north district for their participation in an IPL betting ring. The action was a component of a larger campaign to stop gambling during the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 2025 season.
A gambling racket operating in Swatantra Nagar, Narela, here in the nation’s capital, was effectively raided by the Delhi Police’s Narela Police Station, marking a significant victory against illicit betting activities during the current Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. The Telegraph Act and the Prevention of Gambling Act both prohibit IPL betting.
During their betting operations, the accused people were apprehended. The accused were found in possession of five cell phones, a Dabba, a complex gadget that connected all the phones in one location, an LED TV, and booklets with betting information scribbled on them.
A confidential informant went to the police on April 8 at around 6:00 PM to report that someone in Swatantra Nagar, Narela, had been setting up unlawful IPL cricket betting for a number of days. The tip-off explicitly said that during the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PK), several cell phones and other electronic devices were being used for betting.
Following receipt of the report, the team verified the situation at the Water Plant location at Swatantra Nagar, Narela. The crew carried out a raid at about 10:40 PM. Two people were seen betting live in an office during the 2020 IPL match between PBKS and CSK, which was shown live on a Sony LED TV using the “OM777” app.
While Tejender Singh was using a dabba phone, a communication device that was linked to many cell phones, Rohit Kumar was seen writing handwritten notes pertaining to betting transactions.
Total funds: Rs. 20,000 in 500 rupee bills, five mobile phones with SIM cards that are currently functioning and used for betting conversations, Five smartphones, one dabba (brown communication box) with a microphone attached, one betting transaction journal, and One Sony Full HD TS01 LED TV were showing the retrieved betting app.
