Pramod Mittal a businessman facing allegations of secretly transferring £63 million to his wife and children. He is accused of not paying back the debts taken for his businesses. The 68-year-old businessman was in the news for spending £50 million on his daughters wedding in Barcelona. In 2023 Mittal’s son Divyesh’s wedding to Jake Prior had also sparked a debate. However he declared bankruptcy in 2020 over debts of £2.7 billion. Now he and his family are engaged in legal disputes after being accused of asset diversion by Global Steel Holdings.  Global Steel Holdings has taken Mittal to the High Court claiming that he owes the company $216 million (£166 million). The allegations are over a $496 million (£382 million) settlement the firm received from the Nigerian government between September 2022 and February 2023. The company alleges that $180 million (£139 million) from this settlement Mittal  was transferred to relativesout of which $81 million reportedly transferred to his wife Sangeeta and their three children reported The Times. Mittal’s children who were also holding roles in businesses linked to the Mittal corporate group. According to the liquidators they were also involved in these activities. Graeme Halkerston accused Mittal of installing these individuals within the company to make it easier for his schemes. Mittal was already in financial troubles for many years. His father Mohan 98 reportedly gave him $200 million (£154 million) to help him in settling debts with an Indian government trading firm. After declaring bankruptcy Mittal entered into an Individual Voluntary Agreement (IVA) agreeing to pay just 0.18 pence for every pound he owed. However a judge later overturned the IVA stating that many of the claimed debts were fraudulent in nature.
