Saudi Film Industry: Saudi Arabia is changing. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) has given people freedom in every field resulting in the emergence of new sources of income in Saudi Arabia. Earnings from cinemas are also continuously increasing in the oil-rich kingdom. In Saudi Arabia there has been a lot happening lately that perhaps no one could have imagined. Saudi Arabia has been renowned for centuries as the bastion of Islam but now its steps are moving towards Western civilization or rather it can be said that Saudi is changing its temperament according to the times. The Saudi economy which was previously based on oil and religious tourism like Hajj is now also earning money from cinema and the film industry. Due to the changing policies of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Saudi Arabia has made unprecedented progress in the field of cinema in recent years. This has not only provided a new platform for entertainment for the local people but these steps are also becoming symbols of economic diversification and cultural change. These changes are part of the Saudi governments ambitious Vision 2030 programme. The effects of the Saudi governments efforts also appear to be positive. In the first quarter of 2025 films shown in Saudi cinemas earned approximately 127 million Saudi riyals. Hani Al Mulla the executive officer of the Cinema Association in Saudi Arabias eastern province has stated that this years earnings are 4% higher compared to the first quarter of 2024. This means that with each passing year the Saudi cinema industry is thriving.
