Obnews International Desk: An aggressive and foreign ant species in Germany 'Tapinoma Magnum' has caused serious problems. This species is originally from the Mediterranean region, but now it is spreading rapidly in North Germany. Due to its spread, essential services like electricity and internet are being affected.
Insect expert Manfred Verhag, who is associated with the Natural History Museum of Karlsruhe, suggests that ants of this species make huge 'super colonies', which contain millions of ants. These are not only larger in size than traditional ant species, but their effects are also more serious. Currently these colonies have reached northern cities such as Cologne and Hanover, affecting the basic facilities such as power and internet services.
Scientists say that this ant is especially installing colonies rapidly in the Baden-Vurtamburg and its surrounding areas. Electricity and internet services have already been affected due to this species in a city called Kehal. In addition, the presence of this ant has also been observed in other European countries like France and Switzerland. In this way, this crisis is likely to remain limited to Germany only.

However, tapinoma magnesum has not yet been formally declared as aggressive species, as sufficient evidence of the effects on its local ecosystem has not yet been found. Nevertheless, the Environment Minister of Baden-Wortambarg Andre Bamman has called it a harmful insect and warned that if it is not controlled in time, it can cause mass harm.
Sensing this possible threat, German scientists and administrative institutions are now working on a joint project to stop the spread of this ant. For the first time organized efforts are being made in this direction, so that the damage done to technical resources, environment and common citizens can be avoided in time. It has now become clear that tapinoma magnesum is becoming a nationwide challenge, not just an insect.
