London: During a media conference in London, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar heavily criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its “unproven disruptive actions” and “baseless claims”, according to ARY News. According to ARY News, he rejected the idea of making any agreements with the PTI, which he claims is weakening national security.

Dar criticised the PTI’s account of the events of May 9 and said that individuals who caused the unrest are being held accountable via an open legal system.

“The government is completely unrelated to these proceedings,” he said. Evidence and hints are being used to serve justice.

He further said that PTI was spreading false information in an effort to damage Pakistani institutions’ credibility. According to ARY News, Dar said, “It is shameful to spend millions of dollars overseas to disparage our institutions.” He asked PTI leaders to stop arguing and focus on constructive politics in Pakistan.

A five-member committee was established by the PTI to supervise which party members would see Imran Khan in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, according to an article published by Dawn on Sunday.

In August 2023, Imran Khan was taken into custody in a slew of court trials that he says were “politically motivated”. According to Dawn, he was first detained at Attock Jail and has subsequently been housed in Adiala Jail since September 26, 2023.

The decision coincides with a number of rifts inside the PTI on a range of issues, such as internal accountability, meetings with Imran Khan, party ticket distribution, and a planned law pertaining to mines and minerals.

“It was unanimously decided in the meeting that a five-member committee would be formed over [the matter of] meeting [PTI] chairman Imran Khan,” Akram said.

PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram released a statement on X stating that the party’s political committee convened on Saturday to deliberate on a number of significant issues, including the status of the nation as a whole.

According to Dawn, the Islamabad High Court upheld Imran’s twice-weekly meeting schedule last month, but it also limited media relations after these sessions.

Imran Khan’s followers staged countrywide demonstrations when he was detained in a corruption case on May 9, 2023, while appearing in court in Islamabad. They accuse the military of planning the arrest. According to Al Jazeera, the military has continuously denied any involvement in Khan’s political or legal issues.
