After this, you are sent to the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, where you take the real training of the army. After completing the training, you become a lieutenant in the army and after spending a few years in service, you get promoted to the post of captain.

Opportunity to become an army officer through CDS
If you have completed graduation, then you can become an army officer through the CDS i.e. Combined Defense Services exam. This exam is also conducted by UPSC twice a year and after passing it, candidates are called for training at IMA Dehradun or OTA Chennai. The condition is that the candidate who has completed graduation should have Physics and Maths as main subjects in 12th. After completing training from here, the candidate becomes a lieutenant and then based on experience, he is made a captain.

There is a special opportunity for engineering students as well
If you have done engineering i.e. B.Tech, then there is a different way for you to become an army officer. This is called the Technical Entry Scheme (TES). Under this scheme, candidates are selected based on SSB interviews and medical examinations without any written examination.

Selected candidates are given training and on completion of training, they directly become lieutenants. After this, after completing a few years of service, they are promoted to the post of Captain.

It is also important to be physically and mentally fit.

For recruitment in the army, not only education but also good health is very important. The candidate's height, weight, eyesight, physical strength, and mental state are all checked. For this, there are separate medical tests and interviews that are necessary to pass. If someone does not meet these standards, he is not taken into the army, no matter how good his education is.
