Mumbai: Online shopping has become very popular for the last few years. Meanwhile, recently a news has come out about an online shopping brand company. In fact, Sony Music has filed a petition in the Mumbai High Court against the online shopping brand Mantra over claims of copyright violations. The petition mentions several cases of violations and Soni has demanded compensation of Rs 5 crore.
According to media reports, the petition stated that “the plaintiff has said that the defendant illegally and unauthorized the defendant's e-commerce platform” Mantra-Fashion Shopping App “and the use of various sound recordings owned by the plaintiff on the website have communicated, broadcast, communicate and exploit the public.”
Soni says that he had issued a notice to Mantra to remove the content, but even then he continued unauthorized use of his work. As a result, Sony is demanding Rs 5 crore for loss.
The petition stated, “In February 2025, it came to the notice of the plaintiff that the defendant is illegally and unauthorizedly using the vowel -owned sound recording and exploiting the advertisements of his products, the propagation/spread of its brand, the promotion/spread of their brands and synchronizing them with video for their own commercial benefits and their own app and website. The use of works done, synchronization, cinematograph films, exploitation, communication from the public etc. without any license or consent/authority by the defendant of the authority is a violation of the plaintiff's copyright. ”
