Rajdhani Express: The Indian Railways is the worlds fourth largest rail network with thousands of trains crisscrossing across the country ferrying millions of travelers to their destinations on a daily basis. The national transporter operates an average of around 13000 passenger trains that cater to the countrys 1.46 billion strong population. The Indian Railways has operates a wide variety of trains of every class including express trains like the Rajdhani Shatabdi Duronto and Vande Bharat Express apart from mail express passenger trains local DMU coaches together serving crores of travelers round the year and while the national transporter earns revenue from ferrying freight a major chunk of its income comes from ticket sales on passenger trains. Indias highest-earning train But which train is the highest-revenue earner for the Indian Railways? No its not the Shatabdi Express or the new Vande Bharat Express. The title of the highest-earning train goes to the Rajdhani Express the most profitable train for the Northern Railway. The KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express which runs from Hazrat Nizamuddin in Delhi to KSR Bengaluru City Junction is the top revenue earner for the Indian Railways. The express train raked in Rs 1760666339 for national transporter in the financial year 2022-23 with 509510 people travelling in the train during this period according to data released by the Indian Railways. Highest-earning trains for Indian Railways Apart from the KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express other top revenue earning trains for Indian Railways are the Sealdah Rajdhani Express which runs between New Delhi and Kolkata. The Sealdah Rajdhani Express earned Rs 1288169274 in the 2022-23 fiscal year carrying 509164 passengers. The Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express which runs between New Delhi and Dibrugarh in Assam is Indias third most profitable trains earning Rs 1262909697 and carrying 474605 passengers in FY 2022-23. The Mumbai Tejas Rajdhani Express sits at the fourth spot among Indian Railways top earners. The train which carried over 485794 passengers from New Delhi and Mumbai Central and vice-versa in the 2022-23 fiscal earned Rs 122 crore during the period. While new modern trains like the Vande Bharat have undoubtedly strengthened Indias rail network but its the workhorses like Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express which continue to remain the backbone of Indian Railways.
