Israeli actress Gal Gadot's live-action Disney film Snow White has been banned from screening in Lebanon theaters. Gal plays the role of Evil Queen in the film. According to international media reports, the ban was ordered by Lebanon's Interior Minister Ahmad Al-Hajjar. The ban comes amid Israel's ongoing attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon, which have caused civilian deaths. However, a representative from Beirut-based Middle East distributor Italia Films, which manages Disney titles in the region, told Variety that Gal Gadot has been on Lebanon's 'Israel boycott list' for years, and as a result, no film featuring her has ever been released in the country. The representative also reportedly clarified that, contrary to multiple media reports, Snow White has not been banned in Kuwait. The actress has not reacted to the ban on her film yet. Gal Gadot, who was born in Israel and served in the Israel Defense Forces, has been a vocal supporter of her country. Her advocacy intensified following the October 7 attacks carried out by Hamas. In a speech she delivered on March 4 when she was honoured at the Anti-Defamation League's annual summit in New York City, she said, "Never did I imagine that on the streets of the United States, and different cities around the world, we would see people not condemning Hamas, but celebrating, justifying and cheering on a massacre of Jews". The October 7, 2023, attacks on civillians holding dual citizenships, triggered a brutal response from Israel as crackdown on Hamas leading to countless civilian casualties in the country in the middle east. Since then, global opinion has been divided - with some aligning themselves as pro-Israel, others standing in opposition, and many advocating for a two-state solution to the decades-long, often violent conflict between Israel and Palestine. It may be noted that a couple of months back, Marvel's Captain America: Brave New World was also not allowed to screen in Lebanon due to the presence of Israeli actress Shira Haas in the film.
