Bryan Mbeumo has enjoyed another standout season for Brentford, managing 16 goals and 5 assists in 32 Premier League matches so far.

The Cameroonian right-winger was linked with a potential move to Arsenal in January, to fill in for the then-injured Bukayo Saka, but a move would not come to fruition.

While a striker has been the chief priority for Arsenal, it is still widely expected that Mikel Arteta is keen to add competition to his flanks, something compounded by the aforementioned injury to Saka.

Raheem Sterling was brought in on loan from Chelsea at the beginning of the season to provide cover, though this was believed to be an opportunistic deal instead of one supported by months of meticulous planning, as was typically the case under Edu.

Sterling has failed to find any real form in north London and is expected to be sent back to Chelsea when the campaign ends.

Arsenal could return for Mbuemo, a player with a proven Premier League pedigree, in the upcoming window but there is a potential stumbling block which may get in the way.

The Brentford goalscorer is likely to miss several weeks of next season over a critical period due to potential involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The international competition is scheduled to take place in late December 2025 and run deep into January next year having been delayed due to the inaugural edition of FIFA’s controversial expanded Club World Cup taking place in the United States in June and July.

AFCON's scheduling had also been further complicated by the addition of two extra match days in the Champions League at the end of January. So, the tournament will run from December 21 until January 18.

As things stand, Thomas Partey is the only current member of Arsenal's first team squad who would feature at AFCON next season, but his contract is set to expire this summer.

Mbuemo is key to the Indomitable Lions squad who find themselves in a group alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique.

The 25-year-old is expected to be wanted by a host of clubs, not just Arsenal, and if Cameroon were to advance deep into AFCON then any would-be buyer could be without Mbuemo for the entire festive period.

The extent of matches to be missed will not be known until the Premier League releases its 2025/26 fixtures on June 18 but, if fixtures fell on similar dates to the current campaign, any participating player would have missed ten games for Arsenal - including the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg and FA Cup third round.
