Tirunelveli: According to police, a gang of unknown individuals reportedly attacked an 18-year-old college student from Tirunelveli on Wednesday night after luring him to a place via a social network connection. Police said the victim, Chinnadurai, a first-year B.Com student, told his mother he was going to see a friend at Palayamkottai and then left his house at 6:15 p.m.
Using an unidentified person’s cell phone, he contacted his mother at about 7:30 p.m. to tell her that he had been assaulted close to the District Science Centre.
When police arrived on the scene, they discovered Chinnadurai with a slight wound on his right hand. He was treated right away in a 108 ambulance at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
The police have established a special squad to find the criminals and have begun a thorough investigation into the situation.
Chinnadurai said to police during the first interrogation that he had traveled to Vasantham Nagar, which is close to Kokkarikulam, after getting a message from a buddy he had met on Instagram.
The victim said that four unidentified individuals accosted him and demanded money when he arrived at the location.
According to authorities, the assailants reportedly beat Chinnadurai with a stick and took his cell phone when he claimed he had no money. Police noted that Chinnadurai said he was unable to recall his login or the email address associated with the account.
Importantly, Chinnadurai was allegedly attacked by members of a ruling caste in 2023, a story that garnered a lot of attention in Tamil Nadu. Because of the recent attack, officials have formed a special squad to look into the incident and capture the perpetrator.
