'Entitled woman made up her own seating rules on flight so I taught her a lesson'

A man has slammed an 'entitled' passenger who tried to ban him from reclining his seat on their three-hour journey.

He claims that despite travelling on a budget , the woman expected a much higher level of comfort.

The poster said: "I flew from Denver today, and a woman behind me said that I was rude and impolite for tilting my seat back. It wasn't even a request; it was more of an accusation."

Opting for defiance rather than diplomacy, he kept his seat reclined, determined to impart a lesson on courtesy - or the lack thereof.

He continued: "She went on and on about how unfair this was, and I reminded her that almost every seat in the airplane could be tilted, and that's what they were designed to do."

However, the fellow passenger wasn't happy. The Reddit poster continued: "She wouldn't back down, and very loudly asked the guy next to her if she was right."

Taking a philosophical approach, her seatmate mused: "He very calmly said that this had been an issue with airplane seats ever since airplane travel went commercial."

Subsequently, the two struck up a loud conversation, hoping the recliner would hear and lamenting over their discomfort.

Further fuelling the disagreement, the disapproving woman couldn't help but mention: "She even pointed out that the man in front of me had not tilted his seat," he added.

The peeved Reddit user explained that despite the ongoing grumbles, he resolutely watched his movie, dismissing her complaints - until the aircraft prepared to land. At that point, when passengers are required to straighten their seats, she couldn't resist expressing her relief exuberantly.

He said: "I watched my movie and ignored her for the rest of the flight, but when we prepared for landing and tilted our seats up straight, she said really loud 'finally, thank God.'"

"I just chuckled. Just another one of life's funny stories wherein Karen does not get her way."

One social media user responded to his post, stating: "You have the right to put your seat back. But I'm [...] not obligated to sit still. I'll be reaching down into my bag under the seat to get my laptop. I'll put my table down to work.

"I'll put my table up when I'm done. I'll reach into my bag to put my laptop away and get my book. I'll cross my legs for a while and then uncross them. I may get up to the bathroom once.

"I'm not going to go out of my way to hit your seat, but If you're so far back that I do, then that's life."

Another commenter chimed in: "This is one of those hot button issues that gets everyone riled up. My steadfast opinion is if it shouldn't be tilted, then the seats shouldn't be [tiltable]."

A third person added their thoughts: "I think we all need to point a finger at the airlines for cramming us in. We used to all have room to recline without severely impacting others but no more. Got to think of the shareholders and all."

Yet another user commented: "Years gone by the seats had a little more spacing between then. Nowadays they don't, and the seats really shouldn't have that function anymore."
