In a confrontation with Beta-2 police on Friday near ATS Gol Chakkar in Greater Noida, a wanted criminal with a Rs 25,000 reward was hurt, according to the police.
Police said a biker approached a crew that was doing inspections. The suspect tried to run away after being told to halt, which led to a pursuit.
The suspect opened fire on the cops with the intention of killing them after realising he was encircled. The suspect was hurt in the leg when the police responded in self-defence. Sukesh, son of Prakash, who lived in Hinroti village, Kakod police station, Bulandshahr, was recognised as the individual.
Police found a .315 bore country-made handgun, one wasted cartridge, one live cartridge and a stolen motorbike in Sukesh’s hands, according to Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar.
He said that the wounded suspect was sent to a medical facility for care. They are looking at his criminal background. Subsequent investigation showed that Sukesh is an active member of the D-181 gang, which is registered and commanded by the incarcerated Nikhil.
The group reportedly stole a handgun and a Wi-Fi gadget from a Maruti Eco vehicle belonging to an STF employee in 2022. Sukesh and his associates are charged with committing robberies for unlawful profit and intimidating others with illegal firearms.
According to authorities, he has been sought since December 13, 2024, in a complaint filed under sections 2(k)(1)/3 of the Gangsters Act at the Beta-2 police station. There is a Rs 25,000 reward for his capture.
Three accused car thieves were taken into custody earlier on April 6 after a run-in with the police in the Kotwali neighbourhood of Bareilly. During the gunfight, one of the defendants, Taslim, alias Munna, was shot in the leg and sent to the district hospital for medical attention.
Officials said they got a tip about suspicious behaviour near the Islamia Ground, where a gang were allegedly tampering with stolen bikes’ chassis numbers and registrations.
One of the suspects opened fire in an effort to escape as a police squad arrived at the scene and tried to arrest them.
Taslim was wounded as police retaliated by firing back. At the scene, his two companions, Imran and Taukib, were also taken into custody.
