On Friday, Chennai Super Kings announced the addition of South African all-rounder Dewald Brevis to their roster, stepping in for the injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the IPL season.
Brevis, who debuted in T20 Internationals in 2023, has quickly gained recognition in various franchise leagues globally, including the IPL, CPL, MLC, and SA20. He notably finished as the sixth-highest run-scorer in the 2025 SA20, amassing 291 runs at an impressive strike rate of 184.17, contributing to MI Cape Town's first championship victory.
According to a statement from the IPL, "Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa's Dewald Brevis as a replacement for the injured Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025."
The 21-year-old previously played for Mumbai Indians in 2022 and 2024, participating in 10 matches. Over his T20 career, he has played 81 matches, scoring a total of 1,787 runs with a personal best of 162.
Often dubbed 'Baby AB' due to his resemblance and playing style reminiscent of the iconic AB de Villiers, Brevis will join CSK for a fee of Rs 2.2 crore.
