In a small but profound change, YouTube Music has added a new gesture to the app which enables users to double-tap the album art to like a song – Streamlining the experience of listening to music.

According to Android Authority, the feature is available in version v8.14.53A of the YouTube Music app. With the update, users will now be able to double-tap the middle of the album cover while a track is playing and it would instantly be liked. The song is automatically added to the Liked Songs playlist, hence the gesture already serves the purpose of liking the song as well.

How The New Gesture Works

In the past, tapping the middle of the album art did not produce any reaction but tapping the sides would fast forward or rewind the song. This update aligns YouTube Music with TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, which had already adopted liking a post through double tap.

Why It Matters

Such improvements, though minute, make a big difference to the user experience. This is especially the case for users who add a lot of songs to their liked playlists as the need to click on very small buttons or go through several options is done away with. This shows how Google is trying to adapt YouTube Music to user needs by navigating contemporary design and usage patterns that are focused on mobile devices.

Steps to Acquire the Feature

Check that you have the most recent version of YouTube Music installed on your Android or iOS device. After installing the app, play any track of your choice. After it begins to play, try and double tap the album cover; this should result in the song being liked and saved.
