Political Tensions Rise Over Dubey's Comments

New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has ignited controversy with his recent comments directed at former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi. Dubey labeled Quraishi as a 'Muslim commissioner' rather than an election commissioner, following Quraishi's criticism of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which he described as a 'malicious scheme by the government to seize Muslim properties.'

Quraishi, who previously served as the Chief Election Commissioner of India, made his remarks on April 17, asserting that the Waqf Act was a blatant attempt by the government to appropriate Muslim lands. He expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would address this issue, criticizing the misinformation spread by government propaganda.

Dubey's comments came just a day after he faced backlash for his harsh criticism of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, whom he accused of inciting 'religious wars' in India. The BJP subsequently distanced itself from Dubey's statements.

In his response, Dubey stated, 'During your time, the highest number of Bangladeshi infiltrators were registered as voters in Santhal Pargana, Jharkhand.' He further claimed that the land associated with the Waqf belonged to Hindus, tribals, Jains, or Buddhists before the arrival of Islam in India in 712.

Dubey also referenced historical events, mentioning that his village, Vikramshila, was destroyed by Bakhtiyar Khilji in 1189 and that Vikramshila University was notable for producing the world's first vice chancellor, Atish Dipankar. He concluded by urging unity in the country and emphasizing that there would be no further partition.

Dubey represents Godda in Jharkhand and is currently serving his fourth term in the Lok Sabha.
